Expert: Renewal of Brailtunnel I and II
The two Rail Tunnels Brailtunnel I and Brailtunnel II on the route between Zuoz and Zernez are in urgent need of renovation. Basler & Hofmann is accompanying the redevelopment according to the so-called "normal construction method" of the Rhaetian Railway as an expert.
The tunnels that went into operation in 1913, Brailtunnel I and II, with lengths of 895 and 309 meters respectively, show signs of damage to the existing structure and no longer meet today's state of the art requirements. The Rhaetian Railway has developed its own procedure for the efficient renewal of its numerous historic tunnels - the Rhaetian Railway's "normal construction method". This includes widening the existing profile, lining with prefabricated elements, replacing the track and renewing the drainage and verges.
