At the same time, water bodies need to be transformed back into diverse habitats and contribute to greater biodiversity. The sewage system must be made fit for increasing heavy rainfall events. This also includes retaining water in the settlement area in line with the sponge city concept and thus reducing the summer heat at the same time.
