Surveying for the Limmattalbahn
The Limmat Valley was already reaching its limits in terms of transportation engineering. With the aim of expanding the traffic capacities of the fast-growing region northwest of the city of Zurich, a new light rail system was built over a total of 13.5 kilometers. Basler & Hofmann played a key role in Roads and Railway construction. This also included extensive surveying tasks.
The new light rail connects the municipalities on the Zurich-Altstetten, Dietikon and Killwangen line. The line with 27 stations will be operated on a double track meter line by bidirectional vehicles. One of the central surveying tasks for the project was setting out the track alignment points along the entire double-track line. This was partly carried out with our staking-out robot. Every six meters were set out in straight lines and every three meters in curves. In total, over 6,000 track axis points were set out.
