The management of the optical fibers is very complex, as several hundred fibers are sometimes bundled together in so-called speedpipes. Each fiber can be used independently by a different operator. Fibre management is central to the billing of service rental and therefore has a major influence on the amortization of the fibre optic network. Basler & Hofmann was commissioned to plan and document the fiber routes and their services. The fiber management system is directly linked to the GIS and is operated on Basler & Hofmann's GIS servers.
