Technical report by Basler & Hofmann supports school space planning in Bellinzona

At the end of January, the Bellinzona City Council approved the 27 million loan for the redevelopment of the northern schools. According to the Ticino newspaper La Regione, the comprehensive report by school space planning experts Basler & Hofmann provided the necessary "X-ray picture" and was "clarifying and decisive".

On behalf of Bellinzona City Council, Basler & Hofmann analyzed the condition of the city's school locations in 6 districts. These include around 50 elementary school, kindergarten and daycare buildings. Based on the current pupil numbers, their forecasts and the applicable standard space programs for schools and kindergartens, Basler & Hofmann's experts worked with the local authorities to draw up a comprehensive pedagogical and functional space and requirements analysis. The actual-target analysis shows what Bellinzona needs in terms of school infrastructure today and will need in six or 15 years' time. At the same time, the city of Bellinzona independently recorded the structural condition of the buildings and calculated the costs for repairs. To do this, the city used Stratus, the real estate portfolio management software developed by Basler & Hofmann.

The result of the report: around CHF 73 million is required to repair the school buildings and meet the current space requirements. With the detailed technical analysis as a decision-making aid, the city council has now approved the first renovation loan for the complete refurbishment of Bellinzona North School. "We are pleased that we were able to create a comprehensive overall picture for the educational facility strategies and design in Bellinzona with the report and support the political decision-making process," says project manager Elisa Brusa.
