Undergrounding of the Zentralbahn: overall coordination of railway technology

The expansion of the Zentralbahn to double track and the underground construction in the Lucerne city area will enable the timetable to be improved. Basler & Hofmann was responsible for the overall coordination of all railway technology matters.

The double track of the Zentralbahn underground line in the city of Lucerne and the underground Lucerne Allmend-Messe station were necessary to meet the service concept and the requirements for a modern S-Bahn with level crossings. Basler & Hofmann supported the client from the preliminary project through to commissioning. We coordinated the railway technology planning in the area of the tunnels, the stations and the connection to the existing tracks, especially in the entrance area of Lucerne station. The new Allmend station provides access to the largest event site in Central Switzerland and helps to reduce noise pollution, as four level crossings have been eliminated thanks to the new station.
