Safnern Bridge over the Nidau-Büren Canal

The 92-metre-long Safnern Bridge crosses the Nidau-Büren Canal and connects the municipalities of Safnern and Scheuren. Based on a variant study, the new bridge was designed as a three-span steel composite structure with spans of 23, 42 and 25 meters.

The single-lane bridge is deep-founded with floating piles in challenging clayey-silty subsoil. The two river piers had to be designed for a ship impact as an exceptional impact.
