Replacement railroad bridge Bad Zurzach
With the eastern bypass, the historic town center of Bad Zurzach was freed from through traffic. As part of the overall project, an existing railroad bridge was replaced by a new trough bridge with a span of 17 meters. The new bridge was moved during a weekend closure in a meticulously orchestrated operation.
The changed position of the new road route made it necessary to rebuild the bridge. The bridge is a composite structure with two welded 1.60 meter high steel girders and a concrete supporting slab. During a 54-hour closure, a special crane lifted in the two abutments prefabricated on site and then placed the 210-tonne bridge deck with centimetre precision.
