FFF compensation and soil remediation VD and FR

The qualitative and quantitative preservation of Switzerland's best agricultural soils is of the utmost importance for the country's food security. The cantons are called upon to identify soils with high production potential and to characterize them by means of soil mapping. We are supporting the cantons of Vaud and Fribourg in this project.

The use of land with high production potential for buildings should be compensated for. The aim is to reduce net soil consumption to zero by 2050. Degraded soils that are eligible for redevelopment are to be identified and described in a cantonal reference map. We support the cantons of Vaud and Fribourg from the large-scale identification of anthropogenically impaired soils to the characterization of soil quality on site. In synergy with the pedological investigations, the geotechnical and hydrogeological conditions are described depending on the project (presence of springs, quality of the excavated material, bearing capacity classes of the soil, etc.) and suitable measures are developed.
