Explosion protection: New construction of passenger car center
Merbag real estate has built a new passenger car center for Mercedes-Benz AG in Adliswil. A three-storey building with almost 12,000 m² of floor space was constructed on a plot of land larger than a football pitch. In addition to the showroom, the new construction also includes a workshop, a tire warehouse and a parking garage. We developed the explosion protection concept for the project.

As part of the construction project phase, we provided support in dealing with hazardous substances in the storage rooms, workshops and waste disposal. Based on our experience in explosion protection, we advised the clients, the general planners and the consultants in order to ensure that the planning for the rooms in which hazardous substances, liquids with dangerous explosive atmospheres or gases are handled was legally compliant and safe. One particular challenge was the retention of extinguishing water in connection with the highly flammable liquids.
