Complete renovation of Stauffacher, Zurich

With around 50,000 passengers a day, Stauffacher is one of the most important public transport hubs in Zurich. It was to be completely renovated while traffic continued to run. In order to complete the construction work in the shortest possible time using intensive construction methods, meticulous construction, logistics and transportation planning was required in the airport apron.

The Stauffacher streetcar stop in the heart of Zurich is one of the busiest junctions in the city's streetcar network. As part of the comprehensive renewal, the streetcar tracks were replaced, the stations were made barrier-free and equipped with weather protection roofs and the popular church forecourt was redesigned. The implementation of the project was carried out in close cooperation between Roads, Track and Works Construction.

During the extensive construction work, streetcar service was to be guaranteed at all times with the exception of two track possession weekends. This made planning the construction and traffic phases a particular challenge. In the end, the construction work was completed as planned within 8 months using intensive construction methods - i.e. in two-shift operation on six days of the week.
