BIM introduction at the Canton of Bern Civil Engineering Office
Together with an internal working group, Basler & Hofmann initiated a comprehensive knowledge building process through workshops and coordination meetings in which the basic BIM documents for the Civil Engineering Office, such as the client information requirements (IAG, EIR), the asset information requirements (AIR), the templates for the BIM execution plan (BAP, BEP) and for the tender documents, were developed iteratively. At the same time, the project team analyzed the current processes in conventional concept design and maintenance management, the ICT environment and data management in order to identify the need for action for future pilot projects.
As part of the "Strategy" work package, the team developed a common understanding of BIM, analyzed the current situation and processes and developed a roadmap for the transformation over the next four years. Recommendations and measures for the successful introduction of BIM were formulated. The "BIM projects" work package focused on creating the necessary basic documents for BIM projects. Basler & Hofmann's BIM consultants also provided support in the selection of suitable pilot projects and in the invitation to tender for planners and contractors using BIM.
