Administration building Monbijoustrasse Bern: Fire resistance

Due to an upcoming repair with changes of use, the current condition of the structure of an administration building on Monbijoustrasse in Bern was to be clarified.

An inspection of the fire resistance of the structural system was carried out to determine whether measures were required to achieve the specified fire resistance class R60. The building has reinforced concrete walls and in-situ concrete ceilings as well as steel façade supports. The support structure is a reinforced concrete composite. Based on conceptual considerations and targeted structural analyses of key components under the influence of fire, we were able to identify effective partial measures. As a review of the earthquake-resistant design was carried out at around the same time, valuable synergies could be utilized in the structural analysis and probing of the structure.
