A new light rail system: Limmattalbahn
The Limmattalbahn connects the communities between Zurich-Altstetten and Killwangen-Spreitenbach. The 13.5-kilometre double-track railroad line with 27 stops was inaugurated in December 2022. Basler & Hofmann played a key role in the planning and construction of the high-performance light rail system.
Basler & Hofmann was responsible for the overall management of the railroad technology and was in charge of the engineering consortium. The switch designs, which had to accommodate three different wheel sets, and the new passenger underpass at Dietikon station, which was built during ongoing operations and in groundwater, posed particular challenges. The project also included the planning and construction of the new Müsli depot, for which Basler & Hofmann was also responsible for the track superstructure and track alignment.
Our road construction team was also involved in two lots of the major project, from the preliminary design through to commissioning.
