Mathias Kuhn
Leading Expert in Digital Planning
Mathias Kuhn considers himself someone who builds bridges in every sense of the word. He carried out seismic investigations of Swiss bridges for his final project during his studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. And he just generally feels at home when it comes to connecting different aspects with each other, for example modern digital planning processes with the traditional building trade. Alongside his responsibilities as a project manager in civil and bridge engineering, he is therefore also a leading figure in numerous innovation projects which focus on the digital transformation of planning and construction procedures. This is now the second time he holds a position at Basler & Hofmann. The first time round, he joined immediately following his graduation and gained five years’ work experience as project engineer, site manager and project manager before moving to Australia. He returned to Basler & Hofmann in 2016, bringing back with him the extensive knowledge he acquired during the many years he worked as a senior engineer for an international engineering office in Brisbane. He had particularly focused on building information modelling and digital design.
The different combinations – people and technology; working in the office and on-site; theoretical calculations and practical constructions. I find it fascinating to look for solutions, mediate, be creative and then receive direct and honest feedback from the construction site.
Bricklaying – I got an insight into the trade while working as an assistant on construction sites before and during my studies. This taught me a lot and was extremely satisfying. It is a great feeling to come home at the end of the day knowing you have created something with your own two hands.
