Overall planning of the Fehraltorf energy network

Basler & Hofmann is planning an innovative heating and cooling network for ewz and the municipality of Fehraltorf. By integrating a woodchip heating system and using waste heat from the wastewater treatment plant, the municipality will be supplied with CO₂-neutral energy in the future. Basler & Hofmann has overall management responsibility for the energy network and is the general planner for one of the energy centers.

At the heart of the Fehraltorf energy network are two energy centers that supply the connected properties with heating and cooling. The "Heiget" energy center uses a 2.5 MW wood-fired boiler that burns wood chips from local forests. The "ARA" energy center uses combined heat pumps/chillers to obtain both cooling capacity and 3 MW of heating capacity from treated wastewater and the Kempt stream. The planning and implementation of the project is being carried out in stages. The numerous private house connections and the control of the network with two control centers pose a particular challenge. When completed, the network will be operated with 90 percent renewable energy.
