Nieder- and Oberdorf Zurich: redevelopment of service pipes

Winding alleyways, cobblestones, dense buildings - this is the "Dörfli" in Zurich. Numerous service pipes and gas pipes now need to be renovated there. The renovation work in the narrow alleyways is urban civil engineering par excellence: little space, large streams of visitors, many residents and numerous pipes in a very confined underground space.

Extensive renovation work is required in Niederdorf and Oberdorf in Zurich. Various service pipes are in poor condition and urgently need to be replaced. This affects pipes from the Zurich water supply (WVZ), gas pipes from Energie 360° and service pipes from ewz. They are being renovated throughout Niederdorf and Oberdorf, including the house connections. The entire surface will also be repaired following completion of the utility line work. The paving in the main alleys will be replaced and constructed to provide disabled access.

The project is extremely challenging in terms of planning and logistics: Niederdorf and Oberdorf have been divided into four sub-areas for the construction work. As a result, the construction sites can be planned and implemented in stages and the individual needs of the residents can be better addressed. In areas with boulevard restaurants and on the main tourist routes, for example, construction work will be largely avoided during the summer months. Consideration is also given to events or special celebrations such as Christmas.
