Modeling reservoirs and spring water filters for Zurich

For the Zurich water supply, we were able to record and digitally model 18 reservoirs and 8 spring water filters using mobile laser scanning and UAV aerial photography. Among them: Switzerland's largest water reservoir, the Lyren reservoir.

The digital 3D models for architecture, building supply and process engineering were created on the basis of existing plans and our point clouds captured using laser scanning and UAV flights. The approximately 45 water chambers were available to our team for recording in an empty state for a short period of time, including during the annual cleaning dates. Due to the limited time available and the increasing hygiene regulations with longer stays, we relied on mobile laser scanning for our work. Compared to static scanning, we needed around four times less time. In addition to the water chambers, we scanned and modeled the important pipe cellars, ancillary rooms and, in some cases, the areas surrounding the buildings.
