Holcim: New construction of concrete production plant

A new concrete production plant was built for Holcim Schweiz AG in Hünenberg in the canton of Zug. The heart of the plant is a 32 meter high mixing tower. Basler & Hofmann took on the overall planning in collaboration with the plant constructor and ensured coordination with all parties involved.

The new concrete production plant in Hünenberg comprises an impressive 32-metre-high mixing tower with a floor plan of 9.5 by 9.5 meters. Two passageways with filling systems are integrated in the lower area. A three-storey operations building with exposed concrete façades, on which four 20-meter-high binder silos are installed, complements the mixing tower.

The two parts of the building are founded directly on the rock, which is around 8 meters deep, using 12 large bored piles. The entire complex also includes washing stations, concrete recycling plants, feeding systems, gravel containers, conveyor belts, process water tanks and retention systems, some of which extend more than five meters below ground level. The implementation of the project required a multi-stage planning permission process and the coordination of various interests and had to be completed in a short space of time.
