Flood protection and revitalization Ron
The Ron flows from the Rotsee in Lucerne in a north-easterly direction through the Ron Valley and flows into the Reuss in the municipality of Root. Floods have repeatedly caused extensive damage, particularly in the municipality of Root. The flood protection and revitalization project will protect the settlement area from a 100-year flood and enhance the ecological value of the watercourse.
The project covers the 4.9-kilometre section of the Ron from Ebikon to its confluence with the Reuss at Root. A central measure is the large-scale widening and ecological upgrading of the stream channel. Several bridges and culverts need to be replaced due to the widening of the course of the stream. In the municipality of Root, the channel-like obstruction of the Ron will be opened up and the watercourse given more space. The population will benefit from new riverside paths and recreational areas.
