Axpo's hydrogen production: Safety and Security consulting

Among other things, Axpo relies on renewable electricity from run-of-river power plants to operate production plants for green hydrogen. The first plant is in operation in Domat-Ems, right next to the Reichenau hydropower plant, and another one is being planned in Wildegg-Brugg. We are contributing our expert witness in fire, lightning and explosion protection to these flagship projects.

Run-of-river power plants supply renewable electricity around the clock and thus offer ideal conditions for the production of green hydrogen. Axpo has built such a plant at the Reichenau hydropower plant in Domat/Ems and is planning another one in Wildegg-Brugg. The plant in Reichenau produces up to 350 tons of green hydrogen per year, which corresponds to around 1.5 million liters of diesel saved. The plant is currently the largest of its kind in Switzerland. Switzerland's largest hydrogen plant will one day be built at the Wildischachen industrial site in Wildegg-Brugg. Here, Axpo plans to supply green hydrogen directly to the nearby Voegtlin-Meyer filling station via a pipeline, among other things. With our expert witness in fire, lightning and explosion protection, we are contributing to the Safety and Security of the plants. For the plant in Reichenau, we ensured that the protection concepts meet the applicable Swiss requirements. To this end, we were in contact with the relevant authorities and made conceptual adjustments where necessary. We developed the fire, lightning and explosion protection concepts for the plant in Wildegg-Brugg.
