MFO Park Zurich Oerlikon: Steel structure greening

On the former site of the Oerlikon machine factory, a unique park was created, characterized by an impressive planted steel structure, which we had the pleasure of designing. The park was opened in 2002 and has received several awards.

The park on the 0.9-hectare site is an impressive example of innovative landscape architecture. The design by Burkhardt+Partner and Raderschall landscape architects includes an urban garden arbour 100 meters long, 35 meters wide and 17 meters high. The lattice-like steel scaffolding, which takes up the dimensions of the former factory halls, is equipped with climbing ropes, planters, stairs, galleries and balconies. At night, the scaffolding is artfully illuminated, giving the park a special atmosphere. A total of 22,800 parts or 330 tons of steel were used for the Construction. The park has received several awards, including the 2010 European Garden Award and the 2006 City of Zurich Award for Good Buildings.
