"Expansion step 2025": Unbundling Wankdorf South - Ostermundigen
SBB's "Expansion step 2025" (AS25) expansion program includes measures to increase capacity in the Bern area. This includes the "Wankdorf South - Ostermundigen separation" project, which centers on a separation structure that separates passenger traffic from freight traffic. Basler & Hofmann is responsible for overall management within the general planning consortium.

The project provides for a whole range of measures to improve the service on the line and make all railway stations disabled accessible: In addition to the inter-connection structure - a tunnel under the existing tracks - the project also includes adjustments to Wankdorf station, the expansion from three to five tracks, the replacement of the Bolligenstrasse bridge, a drainage tunnel, new construction of the Bernstrasse road bridge, extensive supporting structures and the complete conversion and expansion of Ostermundigen station.
