Chur South connection: overall management and superstructure management

The bypass around the city of Chur was expanded into a highway in 1980. The ageing existing structure, high accident figures and chronic traffic jams made it necessary to completely redesign the Chur Süd junction. An elliptical traffic circle above the highway and adapted entrances and exits improved the situation. Basler & Hofmann was responsible for the overall management and supervision of the challenging renovation project.

The redesign of the junction includes the construction of an elliptical traffic circle above the highway with two new flyovers. The exits and entrances will be connected to the traffic circle as diamonds and tangential traffic will be routed via bypasses. In addition, exits, feeder roads as well as cycle paths, footpaths and corridors will be relocated, widened and adapted to the new project. As part of the construction work, all operation and security equipment in the project perimeter will be renewed and various structures will be repaired. The surface of the main route of the N13 will also be renewed in the connection area. Basler & Hofmann is supporting the client, the Bellinzona branch of FEDRO, in the administrative and technical management of the project as overall management and senior site manager.
